Let DARK CHIC rule on Sunday 4th February 2007, starting at
Sunset 17:00 5.00 pm and for 3 hours afterwards.
Switch off your standbys, your hi-fis, your chargers. Switch
off your lights and TURN ON your imagination.
We won't "live electricals".
Help BLACKOUT LONDON cut energy waste in London, by living a
little more unplugged on 4th February.
We know it's ten days before the official commercial Love Day,
but you'll need time to prepare.
Picture the candlelit supper for two (or three, or whatever,
especially if you can't afford the babysitter or you own a
puppy), and the lovingly handcrafted vegan delicacies to
nibble on together.
Disconnect all the electronic gadgets that so absorb us and
separate us from our loved ones. No e-mail. No MP3. No TV.
No online games, or gambling. Just for 3 hours.
And in recognition of how much you love the Earth, give your
loved one a BLACKOUT VALENTINE gift, one that's hand-crafted,
second-hand, low in embodied energy.
Remember : Fair Trade dark chocolate will remain an acceptable
substitute for a handmade bijou or trinket.
Or you could present a compact fluorescent lightbulb nicely
wrapped in recycled tissue paper.
Or a book such as "Climate Change Begins At Home" by Dave Reay.
Go on ! Risk a little to let your loved ones know the deal about
Global Warming. Do everything out of sincere love and it can't be
rejected.
